Each of these preferred outfitters/lodges has sole access to 100,000 to 250,000 acres of grain production, primarily sunflower, sorghum, canola and cornfields, which are in turn interspersed with literally millions of acres of roosting cover. Fields are scouted daily—both morning and afternoon—and the hunting ranges from good to phenomenal. Hunters can expect to shoot five to eight boxes on a slow hunt and up to fifteen or twenty boxes on a particularly good outing. On any given day the birds might be 100% whitewings, 100% mourning doves or a mix of both species.

This is classic Mexico shooting, where hunters are scattered along the perimeter of big grain fields, firing at wave after wave of hard-flying whitewings and acrobatic mourning doves. Well-trained bird boys retrieve downed doves and hustle shells and cold drinks. Simply said, these hunts rank among the world’s finest, and sportsmen can often leave their home or office and be shooting the same afternoon.
